This Week Was Hard—But This Is What I'm Holding Onto

Updated: Jun 20

This week tested me in just about every way. We had storms roll through that knocked our power out for two days. The wind hasn’t let up since. The kids have been wild, the attitudes louder than the thunder, and our home has felt more like a survival zone than a sanctuary.

You ever have one of those weeks where you blink and realize you've only half-finished every task, the laundry’s taken over, and you’ve had grilled cheese for dinner two nights in a row?

Yeah. That was us.

Honestly how I felt 24/7 this week! haha

But in the middle of all that messiness—something small happened. We got the power back. The sun came out. My daughter brought me a dandelion like it was gold. And I remembered: sometimes peace doesn’t come in fixing everything. Sometimes it comes in noticing something small.

So I’m choosing to notice:

  • A quiet moment during nap time where I could sit and just breathe

  • A bath fizzy that smelled like calm when the whole house felt overstimulated

  • The sound of my kids giggling (right before another meltdown, of course)

  • My laminator working overtime on homeschool stuff because routine feels like a lifeline

  • My vacuum sucking up literal crackers from every corner and me thinking, “Okay, I’m doing what I can.”

This isn’t a post about overcoming. It’s a post about staying in it and looking for the small lights.

I don’t have it all together. My floors are sticky, my to-do list is half done, and I have three voicemails I still need to return. But I also have a lot to be grateful for—especially the people in my corner (like this little online space I am building).

If you’re feeling stretched thin, this is your reminder: You don’t have to do it all. You just have to look up every once in a while and notice what’s still good.

That’s it.

P.S. I talked a little more about this inside my [Facebook group The Born Fam] this week—if you ever want to pop in, be encouraged, and know you’re not alone, we’d love to have you. 💛
